Revising the structural system saved the owner over $300,000.
USING THE MOST EFFECTIVE STRUCTURAL SYSTEM
BSA Corporation worked as the Construction Manager for the construction of Delray’s new 46,826 sf Library. By focusing on two important structural components of the building, BSA saved the client over $300,000.
First, BSA recommended modifying the design of the structural timber roof system to instead utilize conventional box trusses. To keep the original design intent, the bearing points of the box trusses used the Glue-Lam girder trusses in the original concept. The underside of the box trusses were then clad with 1x6 tongue and groove pine, providing a beautiful wood finish ceiling. In addition, the original concept of the masonry structure was changed to tilt-up construction, saving one month of construction time.
Because of BSA’s technical and project management expertise, the library was completed under budget and on time despite three major hurricanes during construction.
